Some cardiovascular conditions can be treated through catheters or approaches less invasive than open surgery. They are not suitable for everyone and are not risk-free. Selection requires an accurate diagnosis, general health assessment and discussion of alternatives with the cardiology team.

Different conditions need different solutions

Valve disease, coronary artery disease and rhythm disorders each have their own treatment criteria. The American Heart Association explains that valve replacement options depend on the lesion and patient health, among other factors. The team determines which studies are needed.

Less invasive does not mean risk-free

Ask about complications, anesthesia, medication and follow-up. Some approaches avoid a large incision but remain medical procedures. Recovery depends on your condition, the intervention and its course; there is no universal recovery duration.

Confirm resources for your case

This article describes general clinical options and does not establish that a technology is available in every Colombian or Barranquilla center. Ask for the institution, the team’s procedure-specific experience and the protocol for managing complications.

Questions for your consultation

  • Why is this approach appropriate for me?
  • What follow-up will I need?
