Digital dentistry uses tools to record, analyze and plan treatment. Smile Design can support discussion of proportions and aesthetic goals. A simulation does not guarantee an outcome, and technology alone neither eliminates pain nor replaces evaluation of teeth, gums and bite.

From scanner to treatment plan

The ADA describes intraoral scanners, computer-aided design and manufacturing, and three-dimensional imaging. These tools can support some workflows. Additional imaging depends on assessment: more technology does not mean every test is necessary.

Health before aesthetics

Before defining veneers or restorations, the dentist assesses decay, periodontal health and function. Oral health may need stabilization before aesthetic work. Ask whether an option removes tooth tissue, what maintenance it needs and which conservative alternatives exist.

Comfort without ‘zero pain’ promises

Scanning a mouth is not the same as completing treatment. Sensitivity, anesthesia and recovery depend on the procedure and individual. Discuss previous experiences and concerns to agree on comfort measures and understand possible discomfort afterward.

Questions for your consultation

  • Is the simulation a guide or a guaranteed outcome?
  • How will my tooth structure be protected?
